Totum Table: Nourishing Your Mind, Heart, and Guts

Totum Thoughts: Self Awareness

I'm so glad you're here. Take a moment, pull up a chair, and let's just be for a while.

Totum Thoughts are a space for reflection and support. I am a dedicated professional and a friend walking with you on the path to becoming your most authentic, whole self.

Before we can know what we need to do to care for ourselves, we first need to be aware of what's happening within our mind, heart, and body. Self-awareness teaches you to tune into your inner world without judgment. It helps you recognize when you're feeling stressed, overwhelmed, or in need of support. It's how you connect with the wisdom of your mind, heart, and guts.

Listening to the Mind

Our minds are full of a million thoughts. We are constantly stimulated but things and assessing our world. We don't have to get overwhelmed by them. Instead, we can create a little space. Try simply noticing your thoughts as they arrive and as they go. A gentle way to do this is to say to yourself, "I am having the thought that..." This simple phrase can create a helpful distance, allowing you to observe your thoughts with curiosity rather than getting tangled in them.

Listening to the Heart

How about we take a moment to gently check in with your emotions? There's no right or wrong answer here, just an invitation to notice. You might ask yourself, "What am I feeling right now?" (mad, sad, glad, scared, or something else). Just allow the emotion to be there, giving it a bit of space, without any need to change or fix it. Your emotions are a vital part of your inner world, and they have something to tell you.

Listening to the Gut

Our bodies often speak to us before our minds do. They can hold messages for us. You might notice physical sensations and simply ask, "What is my body trying to tell me right now?" Are your shoulders tense? Is your jaw clenched? Is there a knot in your stomach? These are just gentle nudges, inviting you to listen to the wisdom your body holds.

Listening to your mind, heart, and body is a courageous and beautiful. As you continue to cultivate this self-awareness, know that you don't have to navigate this journey alone. Therapy is an incredible way to honor yourself and create a supportive connection.
