Mediation

When communication breaks down between partners, family members, or business associates, getting unstuck can feel impossible. It can feel like a chapter that refuses to end—one where the "noise" of the disagreement drowns out your own voice and leaves your mind spinning, your heart heavy, and your gut tied in knots. Conflict often happens when parties are reading from different books, but you don’t need a courtroom or a bitter legal battle to find a resolution.

At Totum Counseling, I provide a neutral, structured, and completely confidential environment for two or more individuals to safely navigate conflict. Mediation isn't about deciding who is right or wrong; it’s about creating a quiet, grounded space to finally find a common language.

Our Approach to Resolution

Our focus is on de-escalation, balance, and helping all parties collaborate on concrete, real-world agreements that preserve relationships and nervous system health. This process is entirely voluntary and confidential, offering a path to healing and clarity that is often much more affordable, creative, and practical than traditional dispute resolutions. Together, we can untangle the knots and focus on solutions that work for everyone.

When to Seek Private Mediation

Private mediation is ideal for individuals who want a professional, collaborative facilitator to guide them through complex relational crossroads:

  • Family & Relationship Dynamics: Navigating transitions, setting boundaries with adult family members, or resolving deep-rooted communication blockages.

  • Business & Partnership Alignments: Helping co-founders, business partners, or creative collaborators resolve operational disputes, realign goals, and clarify boundaries.

  • Proactive Conflict Resolution: Addressing tension before it spirals out of control, saving your financial, emotional, and physical well-being.

The Mediation Process

Our work together follows a balanced, step-by-step framework to ensure every voice is heard equally:

1. Consultation & Assessment: We briefly meet to ensure that all parties are voluntarily participating and that mediation is a safe, productive fit for your specific situation.

2. Facilitated Mediation Sessions: We meet in structured blocks (in-person or virtually). As a neutral third party, I guide the conversation to dismantle assumptions, manage emotional triggers, and focus entirely on actionable solutions.

3. Actionable Agreements: Once common ground is reached, we outline your mutually agreed-upon terms—such as new communication protocols, financial boundaries, or behavioral agreements—so everyone leaves with a clear map forward.

Fees & Investment

To keep the process transparent and predictable for everyone involved, mediation services are billed at a flat rate per session block:

Joint Mediation Session: $400 per hour

  • The fee is typically shared equally by both participants.

  • Please note: Because private mediation is a non-diagnostic, solution-focused service for multiple individuals, it is not considered healthcare treatment and is not billable to insurance.
